★ First Impressions ♚ TL;DR: 17~18yo parkour ("Stride") athlete and niche subculture model with a following of guys who will do anything for him. cute, but fighty. chihuahua in a dress energy. ♚ VISUAL: Shorter than his teammates at 5'6 (169 cm), yet long-legged and slender, high school senior Yuri is said to have the appearance of a beautiful girl. As he is half Russian on his father's side, he is fairer than most Japanese boys who spend a lot of time outside doing sports, with a smattering of light freckles across the nose. His eyes are violet, with notably long lashes, and his long, naturally black hair is half bleached to blond. His signature hairstyle is his two perfectly contrasting pigtails. goooddd he also has a live stage version, it's SO much on that grown man i am crying. legs tho ♚ FASHION: Even when not in school uniform or jersey, Yuri still favors hot pink and black, right down to his running shoes. He thinks he has amazing thighs (he's a runner, after all!) and he's not afraid to show them off in tiny shorts. Out of uniform, he has an aesthetic that trends unapologetically femme punk: typically oversized tops and little shorts, bare legs or knee socks, and lots of bunny/skull/heart-themed accessories. ♚ DEMEANOUR: Despite his petite stature and his adorable Instagram-friendly look, Yuri has a demanding and confrontational 'tough guy' personality, coupled with a standoffish attitude and ambivalent moods that turn on a dime. He acts like an aggressively protective, almost yakuza-style gang leader to his team of (mostly) fellow delinquents, who all (...mostly) seem to worship him and unironically call him their Princess. He doesn't hesitate to pick verbal fights, threatens violence conversationally, and he has a habit of deciding other people are his enemies for petty reasons (such as having a hairstyle too similar to his sldkjf). Though he may mouth off before a match with arrogance and condescension, Yuri actually respects strong opponents who are serious about winning, so he can graciously accept a fair defeat - and perhaps contrary to expectation, he's not too proud to deliver praise where it's due. Unfortunately, his goofy teenage peers view him as extremely cool, and Yuri takes that to heart. He has more admirers than trusted friends, and he is demonstrably the type to manipulate some of those admirers into his loyal henchmen and lackeys rather than let anyone get too close. ♚ SOUND: An airy and aloof boyish tenor [ clip / eng: "That hair doesn't suit you." ]. His native language is Japanese with some rural Hokkaido dialect, and he speaks passable Russian. His speech is prideful and blunt, usually not very polite, and sometimes he just talks like a pushy delinquent [ clip / eng: "Haa? Obviously anything that's cuter is better, yeah? For girls." ]. His pronouns are "ore," i.e. informal and unmistakably masculine. ♚ SCENT: Expensive salon shampoo and (cheaper) strawberry body wash. Unless he's been running, and then it's just sweaty teenage boy. ♚ SKILLS: Stride, a fictional sport which combines parkour and freerunning's emphasis on speed, efficiency, and style in traversing urban obstacles with the teamwork of relay racing. Yuri is the captain of his school's stride club and he has the best acrobatic parkour skills in northern Japan. In Stride 'verse, the sport is popular, nationally televised, and corporate sponsored from the high school level, but only just gaining traction internationally. Entire city blocks are blocked off for big races, which makes official Stride events as attractive and attention-grabbing as a big festival. Mama fell for a Russian chad (hc: flopped pro kickboxer), moved to the country with him, and eventually returned to Japan with a divorce and Yuri in tow. She has worked as a cabaret girl to make ends meet ever since, which Yuri won't let anyone talk any shit about. As implied by his Japanese surname, Yuri has a distant relationship with his dad. Papa sends money sometimes and they talk on the phone, but Yuri hasn't seen him or spent any time with him in years. The old man is nevertheless responsible for fostering most of Yuri's more "manly" (ahem, otokorashii) interests, as well as teaching the kid how to win a fistfight. ♚ CHILDHOOD: Typical bullied for being different until he learned to fight back and not give a shit maladaptive self-love story. He habitually sticks up for other freaks and ferals, which is why he has a gaggle of them who do whatever he says. (Word of God says he met one of his teammates and lackeys by "saving" him from an "incident" at the conbini, he's strong in a fight, and he's a natural gang leader yes really lol.) ♚ HOME: A rented 2LDK with Mom in a somewhat run-down suburb of Sapporo. Yuri spends as little time as possible there. He always volunteers for every travel opportunity and spends a lot of time at practice/on club activities, which probably played big part of how he became team captain despite... everything. ♚ SCHOOL: Ichijokan High School in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Based on the smart uniform and the low-key psychotic appearance/behavior of the students, it strikes me as one of those "pay to play" private schools which attracts students whose grades and behavior keep them out of most public schools. I hc the Stride club sponsor, G'ene, is a beauty and cosmetics company and that Yuri must be their darling, because (per the live stage show) they continue to sponsor him in America post-graduation. ♚ FASHION: Taking cues from his hairstyle - Yuri collects punk/yamikawaii clothing (think: A AM Studio, LISTEN FLAVOR, h.Naoto, SEX POT ReVeNGe, HELLCAT PUNKS...). He lives nowhere near fashion-forward Harajuku, so it's definitely a Choice for him to dress this way. It's an expensive hobby, which he pays for by doing Instagram and catalog modeling for above such niche subculture brands, but fictional. ♚ INTERESTS: Parkour and freerunning, obviously. Gymnastics. Strength training, calisthenics. Boxing. Snowboarding. Other athletics if they're interesting to watch, but he doesn't like to participate in cooperative team sports. Punk fashion, looking cute.
